LONDON: Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani will remain at the club until the end of the season, said interim manager Ralf Rangnick.
Cavani’s contract expires at the end of June and the Uruguay international has been linked with Barcelona and Juventus.
Several reports also say the 34 -year -old is likely to return to South America in the January transfer window.
“Edi said I can count on him until the end of the season and he will continue to give his best to be an example to young players,” Rangnick told United’s website.
“If he can be in the main squad, he is always happy to do that and give his best. However, if he doesn’t play, he will try to be the best example for other players.
“Edi is one of the players who has a very strong mentality. He has a lot of experience and a good work ethic and can set a good example for other players.”
United will host Aston Villa in the third round of the FA Cup, early tomorrow morning Malaysian time before traveling to Villa Park for the English Premier League (EPL) action, this Saturday.
