Pep Guardiola described Mikel Arteta as an ‘amazing manager’ after Manchester City beat Arsenal 4-1 to advance to the semi-finals of the EFL Cup.
Arteta left his role as Guardiola’s assistant a year ago to take over Arsenal but faced criticism after a disappointing start. Where the Gunners are ranked 15th in the English Premier League (EPL).
Riyad Mahrez, Phil Foden and Aymeric Laporte found their target in the 18th consecutive victory in the competition for defending champions City after Alexandre Lacazette denied Gabriel Jesus’ opening goal.
Arteta’s position will be further scrutinized after Arsenal conceded four goals at home in the EFL Cup for the first time since the 5-0 defeat to Chelsea in November 1998, but Guardiola has no doubt about the Spanish-born operator’s talent.
“All I can say is, everyone knows that we are judged based on the results. He can defend himself perfectly,” he said.
“I worked with him, we could not have been successful without him. He is an incredible manager. I know his recommendations and what he will do. Even a little bad result will not change my opinion.”
