LIVERPOOL: Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp defends goalkeeper Alisson Becker after a ‘big mistake’ in giving Manchester City a win at Anfield – claiming the Brazilian may be ‘nervous’.
Within three and a half minutes of the second half, he twice sent the ball directly to the opposing player, allowing Ilkay Gundogan to create a second goal after Mohamed Salah equalized through a penalty and then Raheem Sterling made it 3-1.
After that Klopp said: “We made two big mistakes, everyone saw it. Left 3-1 in a balanced match for a long time and you were very disappointed, it was hard to accept and there was a smart situation when they scored the fourth goal.
“The performance was very good and with a performance like this, we could not be 13 points behind City. The net, we made a big mistake. It was a problem when facing City, it killed. Because of that we lost the match.
“We can’t hide it (Alisson’s mistake), we can’t talk about it. It’s true. We didn’t give much of a chance, especially the first goal.
“There is no real reason, maybe he is nervous. It looks funny but it can be. But there is still a chance to continue it. Ali has saved us many times, today he made two mistakes. That is what happened.”
