MADRID: Luka Modric became the architect in Real Madrid’s rise over Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea, now the 36-year-old faces Manchester City who are their obstacle to the Champions League final.
Modric’s stunning pass to Rodrygo sparked Real’s resurgence in the second quarter -final against Chelsea. Before that he made a pass for Karim Benzema’s goal when Real bounced back to get rid of PSG.
Modric’s creativity and Benzema’s sharpness became Real’s venomous weapons in this season’s Champions League campaign. The next challenge is the first leg of the semi -final at the Etihad Stadium tomorrow.
Pep Guardiola’s City advanced to the semi-finals of the Champions League for the third time compared to the 13-time European champions who have played 30 times in the last four.
However, in the last meeting between the two teams in the last 16 two years ago, Guardiola’s squad was superior.
“This is the third time we have played in the semi-finals of the Champions League, against a team that has several Champions League trophies in their cabinet.
“It was a special night for us to enjoy it, give our whole souls and then we see what happens,” Guardiola said.
The semi -final clash this time saw two English teams meet opponents from Spain with Liverpool set to meet Villarreal in another semi -final action on Wednesday.
