PARIS: Neymar was suspended for two matches today for a red card facing Marseille when the French league announced they would investigate a racist allegation by the Brazilian striker against Alvaro Gonzalez.
Angel Di Maria will also be summoned to a league disciplinary commission meeting on September 23 for allegedly spitting Marseille defender Gonzalez when PSG lost 1-0 which ended in a fight and five players were sent off.
Neymar was sent off for slapping Gonzalez in the back of the head and blaming the Spaniard for calling him a “monkey”. Gonzalez denied the allegations.
“We know there are quarrels. But at this time there is still no certainty to call the players,” said Sebastien Deneux, President of the Disciplinary Commission.
He said the investigation would review the video recording to determine whether there was enough evidence of the existence of racist elements.
The main purpose is to determine “what is actually being said and what is being heard,” Deneux said, stressing that his party will only make decisions on ‘objective, tangible elements. “
