LENS, France: Neymar scored when he returned to Paris Saint-Germain this morning as the club beat rivals Marseille 2-1 and won the Champions Trophy this season.
The Brazilian striker completed the 85th minute penalty to put PSG two goals ahead of Mauro Icardi’s opening goal and gave new coach Mauricio Pochettino the first trophy in the French capital.
“I look forward to winning more titles, but the first one is always special,” Pochettino said.
“We deserve this victory, we acted well.”
The Champions Trophy, equivalent to the Super Cup, is usually contested at the start of the season involving league champions and French Cup winners.
When PSG won both titles last season, Marseille were selected as opponents because they were runners-up in Ligue 1.
This season’s tournament was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
