LONDON: Tottenham exploded twice in the final 10 minutes to avoid relegation from the Europa League to Lokomotiv Plovdiv as Jose Mourinho’s side bounced back from a 2-1 win over the Bulgarian side this morning.
Harry Kane’s penalty and Tanguy Ndombele’s winning goal five minutes before the end ensured that the 2019 Champions League finalists did not lose in the first hurdle of the Europa League campaign to a team that never advanced past the qualifying round of the European Championship.
“I think it’s a difficult experience for the players. Sometimes in football, miracles happen and when you play in a knockout match, a match is perfect enough for it to happen.
“Everyone has their own moment when they can dream something and through the moment we believe dreams can come.”
Mourinho lined up the best squad including Kane, Hugo Lloris and Son Heung-min with just four changes from the squad that lost 1-0 to Everton at the start of their Premier League campaign.
But it is clear that Spurs are desperate to get Gareth Bale on loan from Real Madrid as they struggle to break through Plovdiv and are left behind by Georgi Minchev’s header 19 minutes before the end.
