LONDON: Tottenham eased the pressure on Nuno Espirito Santo when Matt Targett’s own goal gave him a 2-1 home win over Aston Villa just moments ago.
Nuno’s side have lost their last three Premier League games and were again shaky when Ollie Watkins equalized after Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s opening goal.
Another disappointing result would add to the pressure on Nuno before the international break but Targett’s goal eased tensions at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Defeats at the hands of London’s main rivals Arsenal and Chelsea in the previous two games have raised questions about Nuno just after a few months leading the team.
The former Wolves boss was not a top choice to replace Jose Mourinho at the end of last season and there have been reports that the Tottenham player is tired of his training style.
Despite the problems, the first win of four league games presented with a better performance will give Nuno some room to breathe and prove his mettle.
