Cristiano Ronaldo is Kylian Mbappe’s idol but it is too early to compare the two players, said French manager Didier Deschamps.
Les Bleus will host Portugal early tomorrow morning for the European League (UNL) Group clash with both teams having collected six points from two matches so far.
This means Mbappe will appear against the Juventus star who is the winner of five Ballon d’Or awards in addition to a series of trophies in England, Spain and Italy including the Champions League (UCL) five times.
Like Ronaldo, Mbappe enjoyed rapid growth as a teenage star and at the age of 21, he had already won the World Cup.
However, Deschamps believes it is difficult to compare the two players who have a 14-year gap.
“Ronaldo is his idol. But I think Cristiano is indeed an idol by many young footballers,” Deschamps said in a pre-match press conference.
“It is very difficult to compare the two of them. Cristiano has been playing at the highest level for many years. They are not the same age. I think it is better to make that comparison when Kylian reaches the age of Cristiano now.
“They are two players who can be decisive to their team. This is Cristiano’s strength and it is also one of Kylian’s strengths even though he is younger. They are both good players.”
